Michael Mozer
Google DeepMind

Mike Mozer is a research scientist at DeepMind, and previously at Google Brain. Prior to Google, Mike is also emeritus professor at the University of Colorado Boulder in Computer Science and the Institute of Cognitive Science for 30 years. Mike is Secretary of the Neural Information Processing Systems (NeurIPS) Foundation and is a former chair of the Cognitive Science Society. He is interested in human-centric artificial intelligence, which involves designing machine learning methods that leverage insights from human cognition and building machine learning based software tools to help people better learn, remember, and make decisions.

The power of modern AI lies in its ability to represent a universe of possibilities via complex high-order probability distributions. Committing to one possibility—the essence of forming an intention—is where AI is weakest and where we can be distinguished from agents with explicit goals and beliefs.
