Liad Mudrik is a cognitive neuroscientist at Tel Aviv University, and a co-director of the CIFAR Brain, Mind and Consciousness program. Her work focuses on conscious experience: what it is, how it comes about, and how it is distributed in the world. The latter refers to the ongoing quest to detect consciousness in non-consensual cases, including, among others, AI systems. Though a separate question from intentions, the two are intimately related, as some consider consciousness to be integral to intentions. Thus, her expertise in consciousness, and specifically in the search for markers of consciousness in AI, is highly relevant to this project.

Reality as we know it changes rapidly; to keep up, we must face the ethical and societal impacts of these changes. We do not have the luxury of understanding post-hoc the consequences of these advancements, especially when it comes to intentions in AI.
